This trip was actually planned before we left on the cruise last year. My husband and I lived in NYC a lifetime ago and had the pleasure of attending the Macy's parade. I was fortuntate enough to go more than once. We decided last year that we wanted to take "C" to experience this event. 9 seemed like a great age for it, old enough to tolerate the standing and waiting (as well as the cold as the case turned out to be) but still young enough to enjoy the balloons and floats.
Day 1 Mon Nov 25th
We flew to NYC after work on Monday afternoon. The highlight of the flight had to be flying over the Hudson and looking down to see the Statue of Liberty all lit up for the evening. The taxi ride in from LaGuardia was pretty spectacular as well. I always love seeing the NYC skyline. We stayed right in Times Square at the Doubletree Suites. Very spacious for a NY hotel. Our room was bright as day all night long due to the bright lights and the area truly never sleeps
The area has certainly changed from when I lived in NYC in the early 90s. The Times Square area has certainly gotten safer-the city has on the whole. I do remember why I avoided the area when I lived here though, as the congestion of people meandering does begin to rub one the wrong way at times.
Dinner was a late snack at a quintessentially tourist trap- Planet Hollywood. "C" loved every minute of seeing all the props. Seems we were seated in the "twilight" section, wasted on the 3 of us for the most part. We didn't even come close to finishing this monster dessert!!!
