Hello Hong Kong

March 11-13 Hong Kong.

It’s official I still think this is my favorite city in the world.  There really is nothing like this harbor and we even got to see a laser light show from the ship deck at 8 the first night we were there.  We did  something new for me the first day and took the Star Ferry and another local ferry out to Lantau to see the Giant Buddha.  It was well worth the long climb up to see it.  We even visited the inside of the platform where they had a temple of sorts including many old Buddhist documents and relics.

We also visited the Po Lin Monastery while we were there.  It was under construction which was still neat to see since they use bamboo scaffolding vs. the 2x4 style with metal in the US.  The temple itself was amazing and they performed prayers right after we looked in so we heard the proceedings from outside.  We also saw many other examples of Buddha statues and the 12 divine generals that are representatives of the zodiac and Chinese calendar.  We enjoyed a lunch while we were here as well, sampling some curry/sweet and sour/ and chili flavored vegetarian dishes and some noodles along with spring rolls and wontons.

Ngong Ping village shop
Our last stop for the day was the Ngong Ping village.  It is supposed to represent what village life in the Chinese countryside would be like.  It is really a series of souvenir shops with some cultural shows available to see.

The highlight of the area is the cable car that runs back down to the town below.  From here we caught the train back into Kowloon where the boat was docked.

We watched the laser light show from the pool deck that evening.  They have a laser show that involves the skyscrapers on the Hong Kong Island side as well as the Kowloon side.  If you go to the viewing area, they have it set to music.  We opted for the pool deck chairs.
