2-24-13 Albany, Australia
Today found us on the South coast of Australia in
Albany. This is a wonderful small town
with some very cool architecture and nice examples of the convict style of
buildings. It was a Saturday so much of
the town was closed, although the mall did have some stores opening especially
for our visit. We even went into the
Kmart and bought some new shorts as “C” is outgrowing some of his stuff. We also bought a gift for one of the crew who
is disembarking in Bali. “C” got some
trashpack kids since they are made here in Australia.
We also went shopping in the local grocery store and I picked
up some Cadbury for Easter, although I am sure there will be no shortage of
chocolate on that day.
The fun part of the day was visiting a great craft market
where the ship shuttle bus dropped us off.
They had some great vendors with lots of reasonably priced pieces of
jewelry as well as some notecards to use as thank you notes on board. People keep giving “C” things and I feel he
needs to be able to write thank you notes and this makes it much easier

While shopping there, it began to rain and a friend
recruited us to go on a tour in a 1950s fire truck. The back was covered and we did a wonderful
hop on hop off style tour of the town. We
saw a cool rock formation that looks like the head of a Labrador retriever. We also stopped at an overlook that allowed
us to view the channel that we had sailed through to the inner harbor where we
were docked.

Our final stop on the tour
was to view the Brig Amity replica. This
is the ship that carried the first settlers to Albany in 1826. We also saw the old gaol (jail) it is built
in the convict style.
We had a fun day in this quiet town.
