Fun festivities at sea

March 31 & April 1  At Sea

Easter dinner
Sunday was Easter and we did lots of fun activities.  “C” participated in a scavenger hunt which he won.  The  prize was an Easter basket with candy as well as Holland America prizes- the most coveted was the $50 grand dollars which he can redeem for other HAL memorabilia later in the trip.  There was also an Easter Bonnet parade.  He participated as the Easter bunny and went last.  Bruce, the Cruise Director, announced the Easter Bunny had arrived.  “C” was tickled with the attention and even hopped out.  The passengers all thought it was cute- he is probably the most well known passenger on board since he is the only child.

Pinnacle lunch with Cheryl
Monday, along with April Fool’s Day, brought “C” birthday.  He was spoiled like crazy.  A lady down the hall made him and adorable dog out of cereal boxes.  We took him to lunch in the Pinnacle Grill with Cheryl.  He had the waygu burger that was as big as his hand.  The captain wished him a Happy 9th birthday during his midday announcement.  Then everyone started wishing him “Happy Birthday” from then on out.

There was a pool party in the afternoon and he was given so many well wishes it was crazy.  They were doing a dunk the crew activity for a fundraiser for an Aids orphanage.  He had his $10 plus the $20 we gave him, but then other passengers kept giving him tokens to take throws.  He must have taken the equivalent of 300 worth of throws.  We found out afterward that they raised over $1200 at the event.

At dinner, the dining stewards prepped our table to have confetti and gave him some candy.  Our next door tablemates got him a watch.  When it came time to sing happy birthday, there must have been 10 dining stewards and his buddy Victor from the door there to sing to him.  They even made a gluten free cake so Mom could have some too.
After the movie, Disney’s African Cats, we talked to Gavin via face time.  All in all, a wonderfully fun and relaxing day.
